major health and research organisations work in partnership with us
We work in partnership with others to achieve the greatest impact in the global fight against cancer.
We want to beat cancer. But it is only by working with others that we can do so. By forming partnerships with other health and research organisations, we can make even bigger advances in the fight against cancer.
Raising our international profile
We have numerous international partnerships in place. For example, Cancer Research Technology (CRT) has expanded its horizons and will be playing a key role in the newly-formed Cooperative Research Centre for Cancer Therapeutics in Australia.
This will be dedicated to the discovery and development of new cancer treatments. CRT joins seven of Australia's leading research organisations and two Australian biotechnology companies in forming this exciting new collaboration.
Among our many joint initiatives, we have a strong work programme with the American Cancer Society together we're funding a major regional tobacco control centre in Africa.
Joint research projects
In addition to our partnerships, we also contribute to international research collaborations.
The Intergroup Exemestane Study involves women with hormone-sensitive breast cancer from 37 countries and has been examining the effects of switching to exemestane after treatment with tamoxifen.
And a study by the University of Toronto and Cancer Research UK-funded scientists at the University of Oxford was the first to determine that smoking is responsible for more than half of the difference in death rates between men in the highest and lowest socioeconomic groups in the UK, Canada, the USA and Poland.
Reducing tobacco-related illness
We're also an active member of the Smokefree Action Coalition, which urges the government to protect all workers from the dangers of secondhand smoke. Together with international bodies including non-governmental organisations, private trusts and government agencies, we're pushing for greater tobacco control all over the world.
